In the Spotlight: Limelight Imports

It all started with a margarita.

Amy Gueli, a former sales and management executive in the beauty industry, was the owner of the Limelite Boutique in Sylvania, Ohio. While visiting trade shows in search of fun, whimsical designs to sells in her accessories and gift shop, she found a Chinese manufacturer of affordable accessories, and an idea sparked: why not create her own lighthearted designs?

In 2013, Gueli launched Limelight Imports with her first products, keychains and necklaces bearing cheeky margarita glasses, complete with a citrus twist—a nod to her identity among her circle of friends as the life of the party with a love of fresh margaritas. Soon after, she had expanded her offerings to include earrings and adjustable rings bearing vibrant pink flamingos (a fond recollection of her family’s frequent vacations in Florida), wineglasses (and homage to her beloved grandmother, who sipped half a glass of wine before bed each night), and anchors (which honor members of her family who served in the navy, as well as active military members and veterans in general).

Noting, “I like to create products using images that bring joy and take us to that happy place,” Gueli explains that the development process usually entails several rounds of feedback from friends, family, and current customers. Once a design is finalized and made into a sample, it’s then sent to China, where Gueli’s ideas are rendered in durable enamel with a nickel- and lead-free silver finish. “The success of our jewelry and key chains can be attributed to the happy-go-lucky lifestyles they promote,” Gueli reports.

And with most items retailing under $15, they’re also highly affordable. Limelight Imports products, the key chains and necklaces especially, are strong sellers at a variety of beach, marina, souvenir, accessories, and gift shops, as well as at wineries. When it comes to merchandising, Gueli has some creative suggestions. “Our necklaces can be pinned up on a cork board, draped over a large margarita or wineglass, of hung from a shelf with hooks,” she says. “Our rings look fun on top of a wine bottle as a promotional gift, or displayed in front of the cash register.”

Gueli is at work on new designs for pillboxes, coin purses, and compact mirrors, but for the holiday season, she recommends pairing a Limelight Imports key chain, necklace, earrings, or ring with a gift card, for a fun present that can be used both now and later, and will always evoke a festive spirit every time the wearer dons a piece.
